| Sorry if I posted this in the wrong sub forum, I'm new here! I was looking at the ncstar mars rail mount for the my alpha black handguard, but then I thought why not put a new handguard on my ab! So I was looking around and I found some nice free float handguards but I have no idea how to install them. I know about the whole tightening and delta ring thing but I don't know if It will work. Can anybody help? | |

| They really don't make free float handguards that will work with the Alpha Black. All of those are made for real steel AR's. Why not just get the Project Salvo shroud which bolts right in and has the rails already?
Paintball guns don't gain any accuracy with FF rails like AR's do. Barrels don't move the same way.

| I refuse to get a cheap plastic handguard, that's one of the reasons I chose to buy a metal/aluminum handguard in the first place | |

| Don't know about the Magpul but I have one that I got used for paintball, nice heavy duty aluminum and it fastens by using set screws at both ends to secure it to the barrel. If you check some of the paintball stores on line they may have some like this. Hope this helps you | |

| Hmmm.......maybe I found something I can make now. Adapters that bolt into an AB and allow you to screw on commercial AR guards. | |

| that depends on the handguard,.. theres a little notch snd bolt combo at the bottom of the base where the barrel screws in... you could always mod something onto it with jb weld,.. so it locks it in place,... wouldnt be too hard either. | |

| I didn't physically "find" one.....I meant your problem has created a need for a product, and now I "found" what to do with all the piles of scrap aluminum in my shop.
That tac store has some cool stuff. One thing I don't like about all the "universal" guards is that they just mount on the barrel. For markers with fine thread patterns, this may not be an issue. For AB or 98 coarse threads, added weight may lead to wearing out threads. I would much prefer a guard mount to the receiver of the marker.
What I plan on making is AB specific, not universal. It would mount directly into the lower square hole and get locked in with the standard screw and have about 1/2 of threads for mil-spec guards to screw onto. It would be flush against the face of the receiver. It would also Delrin inserts for the main barrel hole to match the exterior diameter of the barrel (1" 0.785", 0.75"). With the mounting tab taking the majority of the load, pressure on the barrel from the adapter would be minimal. The insert would prevent scratching of the barrel from an aluminum on aluminum fit.

| I'm curious how tight of a tolerance Tippman has between markers....as in If I made one to fit my AB elite tightly, how well would it fit AB and Salvo's?
I'll have to pull out a hunk of aluminum rod and make a couple over the next couple weeks. I'll send one out to you and Brock to try out when they're done.

| Hah...you should have been around when we cut up surplus chlorine tanks for furnace housings...or the hot-bluing salt experiment using a reconfigured 3000*F crucible furnace for the "410*F" heat source! I'm sure Edison had quite a few ideas that *seemed* good at the time as well! | |

| I have enough scrap aluminum to screw one up and finish two. If I make them from two pieces of aluminum I could make a dozen. I'll see if I can get one done each (of one-piece construction and two-piece construction) tomorrow morning and try them out for rigidness and fit. At least there's no gas tube to line up on a paintball gun! That's always such a pain on an AR platform if the guard doesn't index perfect! | |
