Rap4 Gen4 Box Magazine repair

As some of you may know..i purchased a gen4 box mag...i did powered it up and loaded...worked fine...fired about 100 rounds and thought nothing of it. Well had a big game to go to yesterday and it was my chance to go totally magfed...Low and behold at chrono the box mag crapped out..ended up using my P90 for the rest of day.

When i got home i did a tear down of the box mag to see what was going on. This thing had more cracks than the San Andreas fault..i checked the Rap4 website to source out parts and it came to a grand total of about 130bux minus the shipping...so i thought id attempt to repair it myself....

My opinion the box mag is a great design...but has a major flaw...its structurally weak where the magazine housing is connected to the actual box..I assuming the person who had this before me either did a number of ground ejections or it was just plained dropped numerous times...so i beefed that area up as part of the repair...the repair pics are posted chronologically :)

First the damage pics:

On to the repair pics

cut some 1/4" plastic to brace the magazine feed part of the box mag also "smeared" jb weld on the hair line cracks themselves for some added strength


screwed the smaller pieces to the inside of the magazine feed


the bigger pieces of plastic screwed to the outside of the housing


the outside pieces act as a filler to stop the magazine from moving side to side because this is the weak part of the whole setup...nice one RAP4...those same piece have a dual function..it keeps the housing in place...its alot STRONGER than it was


now the magazine part is actually screwed to the box itself..


and 2 new screws at the bottom...


i used epoxy to put the feed neck back together


smeared JB weld on all the connecting points for added strength


Then after some drying time..the box mag was put back together and tested..

the wiggle is gone and its probably alot stronger than it was...even when it was brand new

no ball breaks :)
