Couldn't agree more. That exactly why I bought a Salvo. Great reliablity & looks....& a great platform to work on & upgrade. You can just upgrade the hell out of em. Mine cost me £130 and I've just bought the odd bit for it over a long period of time. Soon or later, you've got a bada$$ marker, that cost fairly little. Just an on-going project that'll never be finished, but will give me hours n hours of modding pleasure.
Patience, time & good bargain hunting skills are all major factors in playing paintball on a budget. BT4 Combats are supposed to be reliable cheap markers too. (alot of feilds have em as rentals & AB's). A5's & 98's of course. Never tried the gryphon, but have to agree......not keen on how it looks. Just too "plastic-y" & cheap looking for me.
Agree on the stock front too.....Anything that helps keep any recoil in check. AND...If you've got your stock tucked in, then chances are..you've already "got the drop" on the other guy, cos your already in the perfect firing position. Aslong as you have your stock at your correct length & not too long.
Thats my 2 cents.....don't rush, think, buy a Tippmann & upgrade an already awesome, reletivly cheap marker into a weapon of sheer awesomeness. ..........................................................................................................
And would you consider selling me that spare 16" J&J barrel (is it 98 thread?) PM me.

I completely agree! Dunk actually said what I was going to say too. 0.o
I spent 90 bucks on my AB with an egrip already, it was used, yet worked great! And now look at the beast!
You can customize it to how you like too, if you spend $500 on a marker, for just the marker, then you also have to spend a ton more to get it just how you want it, I probably spent about....doing some math......$525 on my AB, and that's with having 2 shrouds, 3 stocks (yes I ordered another), 6 barrels, cyclone feed with squishy paddles, egrip, charging handle (not done yet), 2 magazines, red dot sight, magpul MBUS, flat-top mod with a rail, carry handle (removable), Apex 2, and whatever the hell else I bought that I can't think of at the moment.
It's just how I like it, reliable as hell (I dropped it off a 2 story house while playing, whoops), accurate as hell, perfect weight for me, feels nice, and overall just 10/10. And look, about the same as $500 BASE gun :). And that was all spent over a matter of 6 months.
Much better to buy something reliable, and work towards what you want over time.
Just my two cents
